COPELAND WATCH

Copeland Watch
The Copeland Watch is a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au in 2008.

Each week throughout the season, collingwoodfc.com.au will nominate five players deemed to be worthy of occupying the top five positions in the Copeland Trophy voting, and their stock according to their current form.

The Copeland Trophy is the most prestigious individual award on offer at the Collingwood Football Club, and at the conclusion of each season is awarded to the best and fairest Magpie.

End of season review:  Five in the mix for the Copeland Trophy
Five players have finished the 2008 season at the top of the "Copeland Watch".  Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury, Scott Burns, Paul Medhurst and Travis Cloke are the five legimitate contenders for this year's Copeland Trophy award.  The "Copeland Watch" votes have no bearing on who wins the Copeland Trophy but they do give a fair indication of what players are in the mix for the award.

The top 5:

Dane Swan
Dane Swan was arguably Collingwood's best in the 34-point semi-final loss to St Kilda last Saturday night.  Swan racked-up 23 possessions including six tackles and nine inside-50s in his 100th game for the club.  He will certainly poll well on the Copeland night and on the Brownlow night.

Scott Pendlebury
Scott Pendlebury led the team with a team-high 23 touches against St Kilda on Saturday night.  The youngest player of the leadership group, Pendlebury is a contender for this year’s Trophy after finishing second last year.

Scott Burns
Captain Scott Burns has provided the leadership to a young Magpie side with many players making their finals debut.  The skipper was unable to get up for the semi-final match due to a calf injury which has plagued him since round 21.  He polls well and could be a dark horse for the Trophy.

Paul Medhurst
Paul Medhurst has received All-Australian honours after a stellar 2008 season.  The small forward has developed his game that now encompasses a midfielder’s role.  The former Fremantle Docker has signed a two-year extension with the club that will keep him here until 2010.

Travis Cloke
Travis Cloke was unable to finish out the season as he would of liked due to a virus he had to battle with during the finals.  He is ranked 11th in total inside-50s and 13th in total marks for the AFL.  Last year's Copeland Trophy winner, Cloke can rack up votes with ease and is a chance for back-to-back honours.

THE ACTUAL COPELAND TROPHY VOTING VOTING SYSTEM
1. Each player is allocated one vote for each game in which he is selected to represent the Collingwood Football Club.

2. Up to 20 votes per game can be allocated to the best players as judged by the Collingwood Match Committee. Votes are awarded based on the average vote of all four members of the Match Committee.

3. In the event that two or more players finish with the same number of votes then the player who has played in the least amount of games takes the higher position. If these players have played the same number of games then the player who has polled the greater number of “high value” votes will take the higher position.

Please note: the Copeland Watch is not based on actual Copeland Trophy voting.
