The Collingwood Football Club was born in 1892 during great economic hardship and against all odds it thrived. The club grew from sheer pride as the residents of Collingwood struggled through the Great Depression and the World Wars.

During the 1920’s and 30’s, at the height of the depression, the Magpies never forgot the struggling community that surrounded Victoria Park.

Collingwood became the first club to allow sustenance workers or “susso’s” free entry to matches. The famous Jack Ryder Stand was built by the unemployed through a special “Unemployment Relief Fund,” and the club regularly held large carnivals at Victoria Park featuring goal kicking and foot races for people’s amusement.

That combination of on-field success and the club’s socially aware and sympathetic attitude inspired a loyalty and passion that endures today.

It is why the Collingwood Football Club has become a powerhouse of Australia sport – “the battler’s dream that became a national sporting and social phenomenon” - the biggest and most famous sporting club in Australia.

Today Collingwood is committed to further developing that history and to being the biggest philanthropic sporting organisation in Australia.

Last year the club announced a Major Community Partnership with Westpac to support a range of community initiatives. The partnership has been a huge success and a range of new activities have been planned for 2011.

The club has also recently established the Collingwood Football Club Foundation to oversee the development and management of the club’s many community partnerships, programs and activities.

The CFC Foundation is now able to accept tax deductible donations for the club’s community programs and 2011 promises to be an exciting year as the Foundation moves to launch a new major Community Centre at Victoria Park.

If you would like to support the CFC Foundation or require further information please don’t hesitate to contact the club.
