Olympic Park and its surrounds form an incredible sports and events precinct, the biggest in the world. Millions of visitors attend the precinct each year to watch major sports events and cultural events and music concerts.

The Holden Centre was originally built as the swimming venue for the Melbourne Olympic Games and is the last remaining major venue still intact from the 1956 Games. It retains an important place in Melbourne’s rich sporting culture. It now houses Collingwood’s elite administration offices and gymnasium training facility.

The new event and community complex called The Glasshouse, after the nickname for the old Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre - the home of the 1956 Olympic Swimming Pool - provides magnificent new community infrastructure for Australia’s premier sports and entertainment precinct.

The precinct’s major sporting venues include Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, the Westpac Centre, Hisense Arena and AAMI Park along with a range of sports ovals at Gosch’s Paddock, tennis courts at Melbourne Park.

These venues are directly adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Birrarung Mar and the Melbourne CBD, The Yarra River and Yarra River Bike Trails, The Botanic Gardens and Botanic Gardens Tan Track, The Yarra River Rowing Clubs and the Myer Music Bowl.

The myriad of sports events in the precinct include the Australian Open, Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Netball, Cycling and Rowing. Elite sporting teams located or playing matches within the precinct include the Collingwood Football Club, Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Vixens, Melbourne Demons, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Heart and the Melbourne Rebels.
