The Magpies competed well for four quarters and often kicked goals in bursts as the players gradually begin to become familiar with each other. Geelong had Jordan Schroder, Jordan Murdoch, Jed Bews, George Horlin-Smith, Simon Hogan, Cameron Eardley, Shane Kersten, Josh Walker, George Burbury, Jonathan Simpkin and Ryan Bathie as their AFL-listed representation, meaning that they had a slight edge in experience.

Stubbs was one of the most impressive players on the ground, gathering over 20 disposals and reading the play well on the wing and across half back. His ball use was impressive and with another pre-season under his belt appears set to take the next step in his progression this year.

On St Patrick’s Day, it was fitting that Irish recruit Caolan Mooney made an impact. The small forward used his pace and agility to manufacture three goals and have a hand in other forward entries. His skills are impressive for a player so new to the game, enabling him to accelerate his learning of other areas of his game.

Collingwood 2.2, 5.4, 8.4, 9.7 (61)
Geelong 3.1, 8.4, 9.10, 12.14 (86)

Goals - Mooney 3, Ugle, Hine, Boland, Seccull, De Bruin, Corr.
