Voting for the Magpie Army Player of the Year Award is open for business following Collingwood’s first win of the 2014 season.

Collingwoodfc.com.au looks at the performances of some of the players in contention for your votes in the aftermath of the 20-point win.

10. Scott Pendlebury
Statistics: 23 kicks, 4 marks, 10 handballs, 33 disposals, 11 inside 50s, 10 tackles, 9 clearances, 1 goal
Came of age as the skipper with a sterling performance from the midfield. Had just the three disposals to quarter time before coming home like a train in the final three quarters to register 33 touches for the night. Had two goal assists to go with his own goal in the second quarter and dug in when the going got tough early in the second term.

5. Nick Maxwell
Statistics: 13 kicks, 8 marks, 9 handballs, 22 disposals, 3 tackles, 10 one-percenters
Stood tall in game 200, taking a team-high five intercept marks, spoiling eight times and using the ball at 77.3 per cent efficiency. Set the standard for his teammates in defence and was a cool head under pressure when the game was at its most tense early in the final term.

45. Jack Frost
Statistics: 7 kicks, 4 marks, 5 handballs, 12 disposals, 3 tackles, 2 rebound 50s, 8 contested possessions
Put in the finest performance of his short career on Sydney superstar Lance Franklin. Frost held Buddy to just four marks and two goals, but it was his composure and ability to nullify the majority of one-on-one contests that made his game noteworthy. Registered four spoils and laid three tackles in a disciplined performance that would have pleased his coaches.

17. Dayne Beams
Statistics: 14 kicks, 3 marks, 16 handballs, 30 disposals, 6 tackles, 5 clearances
Collected 30 disposals for the second week running and laid six tackles and effected five clearances to boot. He also bagged an important goal midway through the final quarter to put the Magpies back in front.

3. Brent Macaffer
Statistics: 7 kicks, 4 marks, 6 handballs, 13 disposals, 3 tackles
Unobtrusive to most observers, Macaffer played a critical role in his side’s 20-point win. He restricted Sydney playmaker Kieren Jack to just 14 disposals, only seven of which were uncontested, in the sort of performance that usually earns a player votes in the club best-and-fairest.

About the Magpie Army Player of the Year Award
The Magpie Army Player of the Year Award is received by the player deemed the most influential of the season by the Collingwood supporters each year.

After each match, all supporters are encouraged to vote for their best players (on a 3-2-1 voting system, with three votes allocated to the best player on the ground). At season's end, the player that receives the most votes is honoured with the Magpie Army Player of the Year Award at the Copeland Trophy Dinner.

In 2014, a $200 gift voucher to be used at the Collingwood Superstore at the Westpac Centre will be awarded to one voter after every six matches.

The grand winner, selected at random, will receive two tickets to the 2014 Copeland Trophy Dinner and present the Magpie Army Player of the Year Award to the winning player on stage.
