Collingwood’s leading goal kicker Alex Fasolo has been rewarded for his impressive start to the season, re-signing until at least the end of 2018.

The two year extension comes off the back of Fasolo’s 21 goal haul across the opening nine matches.

“I’ve made a conscious effort this year to play more consistent footy,” Fasolo told Collingwood Media on Friday.

“I’ve had some good games this year and have made sure that my not-so-good games haven’t been as bad.”

“I’ve got a good understanding of the game plan and I’m getting on the end of a few and really enjoying it.”

The 23 year old arrived at the club via the 2010 draft and has strung together 78 games in his first six years, but says his new-found leadership role has giving him the most satisfaction.

“I’m really enjoying leading the forward line and helping out a lot of those younger boys that are coming through,” Fasolo said.

Darcy Moore is only in his second year, Jordy De Goey is spending a fair bit of time down there and Mason Cox is obviously from the other side of the world… I’m really enjoying giving to those blokes and helping them on their journey.”

Collingwood GM List Management Derek Hine said Fasolo’s early season form is a result of his hard work away from the field.

“Having had an uninterrupted pre-season Alex has taken his game to another level,” Hine said.

“Alex’s contract extension is really well deserved."

Fasolo’s re-signing comes after teammates Steele Sidebottom, Jack Crisp, Taylor Adams and Adam Oxley recommitted in March.
