He played just one minute of the season, yet Dane Swan has done enough to be named the captain of Twitter’s All-Australian team of 2016.

Based on tweets and engagement throughout the season, the social media giant has picked a line-up of the best players to have expressed themselves in under 140 characters.

@swandane leads a star-studded midfield of Joel Selwood, Patrick Dangerfield and Nic Naitanui.

Scott Pendlebury is also in the team, as is Mason Cox and Jamie Elliott.

Elliott falls alongside Swan in being named despite injury keeping him from actually being seen on the field in 2016.

Cox had the most ‘retweeted’ tweet of the season among AFL players, while also ranking in the top five for having the most new followers in the league.

In a season in which the official @CollingwoodFC account became the first AFL club to tick over 100,000 followers, we were the most followed team and the most retweeted team from round’s one to 23.
