Are you ready for season 2017?

With four teams to choose from, there will be no shortage of on-field action.

Collingwood Media looks at 17 reasons to get excited about the year to come.

1. The dawn of a new era
In 2017, Collingwood supporters will have four teams to follow.

Alongside the AFL and VFL teams, the new year sees the introduction of the club’s AFL Women’s team and Netball team.

Naturally, we’re kicking off the AFLW season on the opening night (3 February) at the Holden Centre. And it makes sense that we’re playing against Carlton, too. Old rivals, new era.

Our netball team, the Collingwood Magpies, will be playing in the new Super Netball competition.

All eyes will be on Hisense Arena when the Magpies meet the Melbourne Vixens on Saturday 18 February.

2. A new Dog
After 12 years and 246 games, Collingwood fans known Travis Cloke like the back of their hands.

It will be just like any other opening round when they watch Cloke walk into the MCG goal square on 24 March.

Only that he’ll be wearing a Western Bulldogs jumper.

It will be surreal to watch Cloke in his new colours against his old club. We wish him well. Just not against us please, Trav!

3. It’s time to celebrate
The Collingwood Football Club turns 125 years old on 12 February.

You have to wonder what the club’s founders such as inaugural President W.D. Beazley would think if they were shown the MCG and the Holden Centre today.

In 2017, the club will be celebrating its past as it looks boldly towards the future.

Stay tuned for more information about how you can be a part of it.

4. Hello old friends
Cloke aside, four former Magpies will be wearing different colours in 2017.

It’s always fascinating to watch how former players react when playing against their old teammates.

Mark rounds four (St Kilda, Nathan Brown), 10 (Brisbane, Jack Frost), 17 (Gold Coast, Jarrod Witts) and 20 (North Melbourne, Marley Williams) in your calendars now.

5. Keep the streak alive
Memo everyone.

Collingwood is just one of two clubs that Greater Western Sydney is just to beat.

We’ve met them on their home turf three times and are still yet to yield.

We’re heading back to Spotless Stadium in round eight. There’s no reason to end the run now.

6. Past becomes present
Brown gathers, spins out of trouble, and kicks long to Moore, who flies high to mark before dishing off to Daicos, who dances around four opponents and kicks another miraculous goal!

That’s every Collingwood fan’s fantasy right there.

Nostalgia aside, all Pies fans will delight in witnessing Callum Brown and Josh Daicos join Darcy Moore as sons of famous Magpies in their fathers’ old stripes in ’17.

7. Is it Grundy?
It was when we met Richmond in round two last year.

Can Brodie pull another rabbit out of the hat when we meet them in the corresponding game this year?

Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that. Our hearts couldn’t take it again!

8. Can Brodie go again?
Speaking of Grundy, his rise into the game’s elite was noted by all in 2016.

But just how far can he go?

He averaged career high disposals, hitouts, marks and clearances in 2016, and polled seven Brownlow votes in the space of three games mid-season.

What’s next in ’17?

9. Rivers flowing
There’s a new man at the helm of the VFL Magpies.

Jared Rivers, a 194-game defender at Melbourne and Geelong, has taken the mantle from Dale Tapping, who left for Brisbane during the off-season.

Fortunately, the bulk of Collingwood’s VFL playing list remains intact. Ben Moloney, Lachie Ferguson, Cal Matheson and Jeremy Taylor have announced their departures, but the likes of Jack Hellier, Ryan Pendlebury, Jordan Collopy and Nick Gray will ensure they have plenty to work with in 2017.

10. A return to Victoria Park
Supporters will be pleased to know the VFL Magpies will feature in seven home and away games at the club’s spiritual home next year.

After just four outings in 2016, Rivers’ team will play four of their last seven games at Pie Park in the run to the finals.

11. A rarity
Collingwood hasn’t met Brisbane in a day match at the MCG since the 2003 Grand Final.

That will all change in round 10.

Probably best we forget that last game, though.

12. Reconstruction returns
Few things will make us as happy as seeing Matthew Scharenberg and Jackson Ramsay return to the game this year.

Both had their 2016 campaigns wiped out by knee surgery.

All who bleed Black and White can’t wait to see the pair return to doing what they love.

13. We meet again
We all know what happened when we last visited the SCG.

Lance Franklin kicked the first goal within 39 seconds of the opening bounce.

Sydney went on to kick a further 17 goals. Collingwood kicked just seven.

There will be plenty to prove when the Magpies return in round three.

14. Awesome Wells
Former Kangaroo Daniel Wells is set to add invaluable class to the Collingwood arsenal in 2017.

We should know: We cut the Magpies to ribbons with 29 disposals and six clearances when we last met the Roos in round 18, 2016.

He polled a career-high 12 Brownlow votes last year and is showing no signs of slowing down.

15. The Mayne Man
What can Chris Mayne offer up forward?

Many Collingwood supporters may not have seen much of his career, but he ended his 172-game stay at Fremantle ranked fourth in the club’s history for goals kicked.

He has missed just a handful of games in the past five seasons, and is sure to add a different flavour to the Magpies’ attack.

16. ANZAC Day
Collingwood and Essendon at a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground on 25 April.

You can’t miss it.

17. A Brownlow Medallist in the ranks?
Swanny may have retired, but a future Brownlow Medallist might be hiding on our list.

His name? Adam Treloar.

Treloar polled 21 votes in his first season as a Magpie. This, mind you, for a team that won nine of its 22 games. Should the Pies hit the heights, don’t be surprised if Treloar starts pocketing three votes on a weekly basis.
