Collingwood Football Club and CGU have announced the biggest commercial deal in the club’s history, extending the leading insurer’s partnership with the men’s program until the end of 2022.

The multi-million dollar five-year extension will see CGU, a premier partner of the Magpies since 2011, stand side by side with the club for at least 12 years.

The extension comes just months after CGU became a foundation sponsor of Collingwood’s AFLW side, supporting the growth of women’s football.

Collingwood President Eddie McGuire said: “We are extremely proud of our long-standing relationship with CGU. We have already achieved many great things together on and off the field and look forward to collaborating further over the next five years.”

“This is the biggest commercial deal in the club’s history and we are thrilled to be standing side by side with a respected and trusted leader in the insurance industry.”

As part of Australia’s most successful insurance group IAG, CGU has helped families and small businesses in their time of need for over 160 years.

Its partnership with the Pies extends well beyond the field of play with CGU supporting several of the club’s community initiatives, in particular the Magpie Nest program which provides housing solutions and support for people experiencing homelessness and the Barrawarn program which provides support and opportunities for indigenous Australians.

“CGU has an extraordinary and proud tradition of giving back to the community,” McGuire said.

“There are obvious synergies between Collingwood and CGU. Both embrace diversity, fairness and equality across business, sport and the community, and we are proud to be able to partner in the delivery of several community initiatives.”

“Together we put a roof over the heads of nearly 150 disadvantaged people and serve close to 3,000 free meals each day as part of the Magpie Nest program. On top of this, we have placed 46 indigenous youths in full time employment over the past three years through the Barrawarn initiative. We look forward to building on these foundations over the next five years.”

CGU holds prime real estate on both the men’s and women’s guernseys, sitting proudly on the front of the away strip and the back of the home jumper.

Eddie McGuire will announce the deal with CGU during a 9.30am press conference at the Holden Centre. CLICK HERE to follow the coverage on the club's official Twitter page.
