Collingwood has ruled Jordan De Goey, Jamie Elliott and Levi Greenwood out of its round one clash against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG this Friday night.

De Goey will undergo surgery on a broken hand after sustaining the injury in an accident at home across the weekend.

The young midfielder is likely to be unavailable for selection for two to three weeks.

Elliott’s attempt to overcome an ankle injury in time for the season opener has narrowly failed, with the small forward expected to train this week and push for selection in the coming weeks.

Greenwood’s time on the sideline will be an extended one, with the midfielder to undergo hip surgery that will see him out of action for four to five weeks.

The club also ruled out Daniel Wells last week.

Collingwood GM Football Geoff Walsh said on Monday “Jamie was pretty unlucky not to overcome that troublesome ankle in time but we expect him to be back in the selection mix shortly and we’ll further assess Jordy and Levi following their procedures.”

“It’s disappointing to have to rule out players leading into the season opener, however it opens the door for other players who have had strong pre-seasons to get a crack at the reigning premiers this Friday night.”

Walsh will provide an extended overview of Collingwood's injury list in the Blackmores Injury Update to be published on collingwoodfc.com.au this afternoon.
