Collingwood expects to regain the services of Ben Reid when it takes on Port Adelaide when the team resumes after the bye weekend.

Reid has missed the past five games after injuring his quad against Greater Western Sydney, but the club is confident he will be fit to resume his season against the Power.

Travis Varcoe is also a chance to join him, according to General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh.

“Travis will do some work over the bye to continue his rehab with his hamstring,” Walsh told Collingwood Media’s Blackmores Injury Update.

“In the last six or seven days, he has shown some good improvement and we would expect that if it is not the Port Adelaide round, then we would be looking at the week after that.”

The Magpies are taking a steady approach to the injury recoveries of Jamie Elliott (ankle) and Daniel Wells (calf), with the club likely to know more about the status of the former when his moonboot is removed next week.

“We expect him to come out of that boot at some time after the resumption of training on Monday, and the doctors will have a good look at it then,” Walsh continued.

“At this stage, while it is in the boot, it is in a state of flux.”

Tyson Goldsack, the third injury victim in Collingwood’s gutsy win over Fremantle a fortnight ago, is unlikely to face the Power but should return to the frame against Hawthorn the following week.

Goldsack bravely played out the match despite injuring his shoulder during the first half.

The news is better for key forward Jesse White, who is set to return from a hamstring injury after the bye.
