Internal praise for a young footballer trying to make his way at an AFL club doesn’t come much bigger than the superstar skipper of the team.

So when five-time Copeland Trophy winner Scott Pendlebury throws his support behind two young guns eager for a debut, it means plenty.

A number of inexperienced Collingwood players are pressing for a senior berth, with selection perhaps on the cards after coach Nathan Buckley stated post-Essendon loss that players may be picked “before their time”.

Speaking to co-host Jay Clark on weekly podcast ‘Jock and Journo’, Pendlebury gave high praise to both Josh Daicos and Kayle Kirby.

iTUNES: "Those stocky legs help him get in and out of traffic a bit" - Scott Pendlebury on Jock and Journo.

The captain described father-son recruit Daicos as a clever small forward who “moves in and out of traffic really well”, while saying if 18-year-old Kirby maintains his strong VFL form “you can’t ignore him for much longer”.

Both players have been in impressive form for the VFL Magpies during a three-game winning streak.

Kirby now leads the entire competition’s goal kicking with 27 majors and a bag of four against Geelong on Saturday. The Swan Hill product has Daicos to thank for a number of his efforts in front of goal with the half forward stringing together three consecutive impressive performances.

Pendlebury compared Daicos to one of Collingwood’s experienced stars, while hitting a number of other topics on ‘Jock and Journo’. He picked his Brownlow Medal favourite, discussed Buckley’s future at the club and shared an idea for an end-of-season AFL awards “extravaganza”.
