“It sounds weird, but it’s probably the most painful thing I have done.”

Was it the broken leg?

A broken foot?

Maybe an old-fashioned bout of pre-season torture?

No, the most painful injury Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has experienced is a broken finger.

The 29-year-old told Collingwood Media’s Jock and Journo podcast of the challenges he’s faced since breaking the digit during the third quarter of last Saturday’s win over Gold Coast.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night. I didn’t know I had a heart in my finger – it was throbbing all night,” Pendlebury admitted to co-host Jay Clark.

“It wasn’t a great outcome to break my finger on the weekend, but we got the win, so I was happy.”

Pendlebury went on to describe the moment the middle finger on his right hand broke, when he pressed his hand against Adam Saad’s chest.

“It actually (happened) the second I touched him,” he said.

“I went to grab the ball but I missed. My right hand middle finger must have been dead straight because it hit him in the chest, and that’s when it broke. I poked him in the chest, pretty much, and it broke there and then.”
