Wells 'severely hindered' against North

Luke Mason  August 8, 2017 4:30 PM

Will Levi and Wells play? Join General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh for Collingwood Media's Blackmores Injury Update as the Magpies prepare to take on Port Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Wells will undergo a fitness test later this week to determine his availability for Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide.

The star midfielder played only 75 per cent game time during Collingwood’s win over North Melbourne on Saturday night, collecting just five disposals owing to an incident during the second quarter where he damaged his quad.

“Daniel probably played at about 60-70 per cent as the game wore on, which severely hindered his ability to run,” General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh told Collingwood Media’s Blackmores Injury Update.

“While we have had scans, the major factor will be whether he is able to train later in the week (to determine his) availability will be confirmed for the Port Adelaide game.

“We won’t know that until later this week.”

Wells wasn’t the only Magpie to sustain an injury against the Kangaroos.

Levi Greenwood was helped from the field after damaging his knee in the second quarter and did not return.

“While Levi has escaped serious injury, certainly there’s a sprain to his medial ligament in the knee capsule,” Walsh continued.

“I think it’s going to be a 2-3 week issue so whether we see Levi back before season’s end is going to be problematical.”

The news is better for a raft of youngsters who face fitness tests later this week.

Ben Crocker (ankle), Liam Mackie (ankle), Jackson Ramsay (knee) and Brayden Sier (foot) will present their cases for a return ahead of Thursday’s match committee meetings.

Rupert Wills (quad) is 1-2 weeks from a return, as are youngsters Mitch McCarthy (foot) and Sam McLarty (hip/ groin).
