Top 5: AFLW Round Five Watch the best five moments from Collingwood's AFLW round five match against the Western Bulldogs, presented by Collingwood Media and premier partner CGU Insurance.

One dual-sport athlete. One Olympian. One former junior athletics champ.

It’s only fitting that on International Women’s Day 2018, Collingwood announces the debuts of three players who have found football from unconventional backgrounds.

However while the AFLW competition is a token of the growing significance of women’s sport in Australia, these selections are purely focused towards on-field success.

Ash Brazill is a star Collingwood netballer who has quickly become accustomed to her new code. Against Brisbane on Saturday, she will swap a wing defence bib for a position in the Magpies’ backline.

Georgie Parker has over 100 Australian caps, a Commonwealth Games gold medal and Olympic Games experience. However as an AFLW rookie, the former Hockeyroo will face a unique test when she makes her Black and White debut.

Finally, in Kristy Stratton, the Magpies have a 23-year-old who has overcome serious injury to once again reach the top of her game. Stratton ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in 2015, before recovering and becoming the first player to be drafted from Box Hill’s VFL Women’s team when she was selected by the Magpies with pick No. 21 in the 2017 National Draft.

“I’ve barracked for them (Collingwood) my whole life and to be going to a club I barrack for, it is just crazy,” Stratton told the Whitehorse Leader in October, 2017.

Joining the tree debutants in Collingwood’s round six squad is West Australian defender Tara Morgan. She replaces suspended captain Stephanie Chiocci, while young Magpies Holly Whitford, Sarah Dargan and Iilish Ross will also sit out a clash with the Lions.
