Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury is still unsure whether he will be fit enough to take on Geelong, with an ankle injury leaving him under a cloud ahead of the match at the MCG on Sunday.

Pendlebury injured his left ankle in the second quarter of Sunday's clash against Brisbane and, after initially trying to play on, the skipper was forced to sit out the majority of the second half.

With Pendlebury watching on, the Magpies triumphed by seven points over a gallant Lions team that pushed them all the way at the Gabba.

The Magpies' skipper was sporting a moon boot on his left foot as the team flew in from Brisbane on Monday afternoon.

"It's actually pulled up not too bad so I'll get a scan and see what's there," Pendlebury told reporters at Melbourne Airport on Monday afternoon.

"I've got no idea to be honest (whether he'll play against Geelong). If it's only a bit of bruising or something like that then maybe (he'll play), but if it's more – then obviously not.

"We'll just have to wait and see."

Pendlebury said the ankle injury had not allowed him to perform at full capacity against the Lions, hence the decision to sit out the last quarter and a half of action.

"I did it in the second quarter and it progressively got worse to the point where I was struggling to turn a little bit," Pendlebury said.

"I tried to go back on and give us another rotation but it made it hard to play footy when I couldn't turn."

Among the options available to the match committee may include veteran midfielder Daniel Wells, who played his third consecutive match at VFL level in Werribee on Saturday night, Alex Fasolo, Callum Brown – who was rested for the game against the Lions – and young midfielder Brayden Sier.

The Cats are set to welcome back superstar midfielder Gary Ablett from a hamstring injury, while important defender Harry Taylor could also play his first game since round one after recovering from a foot complaint.

Forward Daniel Menzel may also be cleared to play after battling a groin injury that has sidelined him for the past two weeks.
