Collingwood big man Ben Reid sustained a suspected calf injury during the VFL Magpies’ two-point win over Port Melbourne on Saturday.

The 29-year-old left the field early in the third quarter and did not return.

“I think he just felt his calf a little bit when he went for a contest,” VFL coach Jared Rivers told Channel Seven post-match.

“It was really unlucky for Ben. He has worked so hard to get himself into a position to play footy (again).

“Today he probably just hurt himself a little bit so we will assess during the week and see where he is at. It is really disappointing for him.”

The match was Reid’s first after returning from knee injuries that kept him sidelined since round 10.

Since he was drafted at pick No. 8 in the 2006 National Draft, Reid has played 142 senior games, including the 2010 premiership.
