AFLW coach Wayne Siekman was delighted with the calibre of players Collingwood recruited in Tuesday's AFLW Draft.

"It probably exceeded expectations," Siekman said after the event at Marvel Stadium. "We're really stoked.

"We were able to get the best talent that we need to build and make us as strong as we can be."

The Pies snared Jordyn Allen and Katie Lynch with their two first-round picks, then took Mikayla Cann, Lauren Butler, Maddie Shevlin, Sophie Alexander, Georgia Gourlay, Jordan Membrey and Erica Fowler with their later picks.

Siekman expects Allen, who was taken with pick five overall, to make a big impact in her debut AFLW season in 2019.

"She was probably AFLW-ready last year, but if you're not 18 you can't be drafted, so I think this moment has been waiting for her for a long time," he said.

The expectations are also high for Lynch, who was taken with pick 11 and played a number of games in Collingwood's VFLW team this year.

"She's got a great left-foot kick," Siekman said.

"We were delighted to get someone from our VFL program. It shows you that we're doing some good things as a women's football program at the club."
