Mundy claims Rd 14 Rising Star award

12:00 AM Tue 05 July, 2005
Fremantle's David Mundy is the round 14 nominee for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award.

The emerging defender had 13 kicks and 11 handpasses against the Brisbane Lions in round 11 and last Sunday he had 21 possessions to be one of Fremantle's better players in the narrow 6-point loss to the Adelaide Crows. He has had more than 17 touches for the Dockers on four occasions.

Originally from Seymour, Mundy was drafted by the Dockers with the club's third selection – no.19 overall – at the 2003 NAB AFL Draft and he spent all of last year playing for WAFL club Subiaco and was part of the club's premiership side.

Mundy made his debut for the Dockers in the win over Melbourne at the MCG in round six and has not missed a game since.

So far, the nominees in the 2005 NAB AFL Rising Star Medal have been: Kepler Bradley (Ess), Shannon Byrnes (Geel), Brock McLean (Melb), Lance Franklin (Haw), Jason Laycock (Ess), Justin Sherman (Bris), Will Minson (WB), Brett Deledio (Rich), Colin Sylvia (Melbourne), Travis Cloke (Collingwood), Jordan Lewis (Hawthorn), Jed Adock (Brisbane Lions) and Ryan Griffen (Western Bulldogs).
