COLLINGWOOD will continue to negotiate a new contract with ruckman Josh Fraser while pursuing the services of Lions youngster Cameron Wood.

Chief of football operations Geoff Walsh said the Pies were "in the middle" of discussions with Fraser, as trade week passes its halfway mark and Friday’s 2pm deadline looms.

Walsh said the club will continue to speak to the Brisbane Lions about Wood, with a view to the young ruckman becoming a Pie before the week is out.

"We've spoken to Brisbane about him, we'll continue to speak to Brisbane about him, but there's nothing to report as a result there," Walsh said on Wednesday afternoon.

"He's a good young player. At the end of the day, I don't want to be making any big statements about him because he's not our player.

"He's theirs, and at the moment we're talking to them about it. Nothing has happened, so I'll leave the speculation to the journos and the people who are paid to do that.”

Walsh denied the club was specifically looking for an experienced ruckman this week, and said Fremantle's Robert Warnock was not on the radar.

"I don't know where that one came from, we've had no discussions [about Warnock]," he said.

"Wood's a ruckman but I wouldn't say that's a theme for us. We've spoken to Brisbane about him and he's a ruckman, but we're not just combing every nook and cranny for someone just because they fit the bill as a ruckman.

"We talked to Brisbane because we have an interest in Cameron specifically. Are we looking for a ruckman, come what may? No."

Walsh said the club was pleased with its early progress in trade week, with young gun Jaxson Barham free to become a Magpie after no other clubs bid for him under the new father-son ruling.

"We're happy with Jaxson,” Walsh said. “We believe his form with the Geelong Falcons has been pretty consistent this year."

"Obviously being a father-son, it's always great to retain those links, and we've got hopes about Jaxson. His strengths are that he can run, he's got great endurance, he's got good speed and he carries the footy.

"He's very much like his dad, I suppose. His dad in his heyday was very much like that."

Please note, no trades are official prior to paperwork being accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm, Friday October 9, 2007.
