Amid speculation in the media regarding the possible recruitment of Essendon captain Matthew Lloyd next season, defensive coach Mark Neeld confirmed on Wednesday morning the veteran is not on the club’s radar.

Addressing the media at the MCG before the midweek training session, Neeld quashed any rumour regarding the matter.

“(During finals) there appears to be always stories which bob up.  With respect to Matthew Lloyd who is an outstanding footballer, it hasn’t been discussed at our football club.  I would say it is unlikely to be discussed that we would be targeting a 31-year-old captain of an opposition AFL club.”

“We are looking at promoting youth.  If you look at our forward line it’s quite a youthful area.

“I would highly doubt whether that will be discussed at our list management meetings.”
