Collingwood midfielder Jarryd Blair has caught the eye of the VFL state selectors with a place in the 45-man VFL representative squad ahead of the state match against the WAFL held later this month.
Blair, who was selected by Collingwood in the 2008 AFL rookie draft with overall pick 27, played in 19 matches across the midfield last season and averaged 20.5 disposals.
“It’s great recognition for Blair as a rookie-listed player”, VFL head coach Gavin Brown told collingwoodfc.com.au after the squad was released.
“His form in the first four VFL games has been fantastic. It’s well deserved.”
Also representing Collingwood is Kris Pendlebury, who is the side’s captain this year in his third season on the VFL list. The older brother of Scott has only played one match in 2010 but has been rewarded for his consistent play over the last two years.
“This is important for Kris because it takes him a step closer in obtaining that goal of making it on an AFL list.”
The squad will be narrowed to a travelling part of 23 players ahead of the state league representative match against the WAFL at Leederville Oval (WA) on Saturday 22 May.
North Ballarat's dual premiership (2008 and 2009) coach Gerard FitzGerald will oversee the VFL representative team.
The squad is made up of a combination of AFL-rookie and VFL-listed players.
