A rangy, tallish flanker who has been unable to cement his place in the senior side since he was drafted in 2010. A smooth mover who can often be found dodging and weaving his way past opponents, Seedsman adds vital run and carry to Collingwood's half back line. A Magpie supporter since birth, teammates often joke that Seedsman has an encyclopedic knowledge of their playing careers, and his great-grandfather, Jim Sharp, was President of the club for 12 years. He will be looking to build on his 37 games of AFL experience in what is his fifth season on the list.

Season By Season

Seedsman experienced a delayed start to the year after undergoing hip surgery in late January.

He returned from injury via the VFL and needed just four matches before he got a senior call up in round 11 against St Kilda where he held his place in the side for eight consecutive games.

The defender was one of the few to stand up in the round 13 loss to the Bulldogs finishing with 22 disposals and five marks.

Two weeks later he contributed in the narrow win over Carlton with 20 disposals.

Seedsman played out the final three matches of the season in the VFL including an impressive showing against Bendigo in round 20 with 24 disposals (at 92 per cent efficiency) and ten tackles.

Season By Season

After getting a taste of senior football in 2012, Paul Seedsman entrenched himself as a key component of Collingwood’s new-look defence this season. He made an early statement with a fine pre-season campaign, highlighted by his 18 possessions and eight inside 50s against the Eagles in Perth. He missed the first game of the year through injury and was used as a substitute against Carlton in round two but failed to make an impacted and subsequently returned to the VFL.

A 28-possession and seven-inside 50 performance under lights against Werribee served notice that he was ready to progress to the next level. The match committee obviously had a similar view and recalled him for the clash with Richmond the following week. From there on, Seedsman didn’t miss a beat, turning defence into attack on the wing and pushing forward to make an impact on the scoreboard when the chance arose.

In a side that was without Ben Johnson and Clinton Young for most of the season, Seedsman was a critical source of defensive rebound and evasion through the midfield. He ranked sixth at Collingwood for metres gained across the duration of the season and still managed to have a total of 20 scoring shots in 17 games.

His best performances came interstate, registering 28 possessions and nine inside 50s against Brisbane in round 10 and a team-high 34 possessions and seven rebounds in the loss to Port Adelaide in round 14. A calf injury against the Suns in round 17 saw him return via the VFL from which he mounted his case for a senior recall just in time for the finals. Although he won just the 15 possessions in the Elimination Final against the Power, it should not take any gloss off what was a very promising third year on the list.

Season By Season

The half back flanker played 11 games in his second AFL season, including a patch of six in the second half. Was in and out of the team before that, following three NAB Cup appearances, but knuckled down with his preparation and recovery at the mid-season break and reaped the rewards. Signed a two-year extension during the year and is expected to push for a regular senior spot in 2013, given his promising run and carry.

Season By Season

Was a big improver over the course of the VFL season. Played 13 games for nine goals, playing mainly at half back and occasionally across half forward. Averaged 17.2 disposals, 4.0 marks and 4.5 tackles per game and had a real influence on some matches with his ability to read the play and put his slender frame on the line.

His disposal was also notable, and he was rewarded for his improvement when he was made an emergency for the match against North Melbourne in round 16.

Played school football for Caulfield Grammar while completing his VCE and managed three games for the Eastern Rangers in the TAC Cup U18s. He averaged 15.3 disposals and 8.3 contested possessions when playing for the Rangers.

Seedsman impressed recruiters with three goals in a Young Guns exhibition match staged as a curtain raiser to the VFL finals series. Was drafted to Collingwood with pick No. 76 in the National Draft, and joined Ben Johnson, Heath Shaw and Brad Dick as one of the few players on the 2011 list to have grown up supporting the Magpies.
