An athletic key position player who can be used at either end of the ground. He arrived at the club a growth spurt saw him morph from a midfielder into a makeshift ruckman during his final years with Swan Districts in Western Australian. Gault looms as an intriguing prospect on the eve of his fourth season at the club, having debuted in the final round of 2014 and not looked out of place up forward. Delisted at the end of 2013, Gault was able to make inroads on the rookie list, kicking 13 goals in the VFL after damaging his collarbone earlier in the season. With his injuries behind him and his confidence high after a strong end to 2014, Gault will be looking to further his senior credentials this year.

Season By Season

For the second straight year, Corey Gault struggled to overcome injury in 2015.

The season started on a high as Gault was awarded a temporary position on the senior list in replacement for the injured Brent Macaffer. After not taking the field in round one, the tall forward strung together three consecutive AFL games between rounds two and five to take his career total to four appearances.

Spending time up forward and in the ruck, Gault maintained an average of a goal per game, however couldn’t hold his position in the side as the Magpies’ prepared to play Geelong in round six. He returned to the VFL where he kicked two goals in what would go on to be a season-high18 disposals against the Cats VFL affiliate.

As the weeks went by, Gault’s VFL form began to waver. While the 199cm forward still produced admirable games, he appeared to be clearly hampered by injury.

After missing four games throughout the season, Gault made his last appearance for the VFL Magpies on the MCG against the Northern Blues in August. He had just two disposals before finally succumbing to groin and hip problems that kept him out for the remainder of the season.

Season By Season

Gault was sidelined early on in the year after sustaining a broken collarbone against Essendon at Windy Hill and returned to the VFL side in round 12.

He steadily improved across eight VFL matches highlighted by a two-goal performance (19 disposals) in the round 20 match against Bendigo.

He was rewarded for his effort in the VFL with a round 23 AFL debut taking on eventual premiers Hawthorn.

Playing as a key forward, Gault made the most of his chance booting two goals in a tough night for the club.

Season By Season

As in 2012, Gault was used at either end of the ground during his 14 VFL outings where he showed flashes of his potential as a versatile key position prospect. Touted by Rodney Eade as a senior prospect ahead of the NAB Cup, Gault had several duals with some of the game’s high profile youngsters in Essendon’s Joe Daniher and Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan. He was an important of part of a slightly undersized Collingwood defence but missed four of the last five games of the year, including the Elimination Final, due to a groin injury. His flexibility was illustrated by the coaches use of him as a pinch-hitting ruckman at different stages later in the season. At 198cm and with a good leap to match, he presents as perhaps the club’s most versatile youngster.

Season By Season

The tall West Australian spent his first season developing in the VFL where he was played in defence towards the end. Can play at centre half back or centre half forward as well as having the potential to fill a back-up ruck role. Added weight to his lean frame throughout the year and the Pies are optimistic he will play senior football in 2013.

Season by Season

Played for the Swan Districts Colts in the WAFL where he averaged 22 hitouts, 17.4 disposals and 3.4 tackles. He played one senior match, where he won 17 possessions, seven marks and booted one major. Represented Western Australia at the U18 National Championships. He was drafted to Collingwood with pick No. 65 in the National Draft.

Struggled with a hip flexor injury that was a result of a sudden growth spurt. It meant that he developed into a ruckman, having played much of his junior footy as a midfielder.
