2009 season
The ruckman made his first senior start of 2009 in the round eight loss to Carlton and proceeded to play 12 more matches for the year.

Similar to last season, Cameron Wood was elevated to the AFL side after Josh Fraser went down with a knee injury.

The former Brisbane Lion looked comfortable in his fifth season in the system and second with Collingwood as he went on to average a career-high 15.7 hitouts (10.9 in 2008).

Wood showed that he was capable of having an influence around the ground while serving as the number one ruckman, averaging career-highs in disposals (13.2) and marks (4.3).

With new recruit Darren Jolly expected to have a strong hand in the ruck combination in 2010, Wood will be battling several of his teammates for a place in the senior side against the Western Bulldogs in round one.

Career
Collingwood acquired the talented big man from Brisbane at the end of 2007 in the trade period in exchange for pick 14. Wood, who debuted in 2005, spent three seasons with the Lions for 16 games and gained invaluable experience in 2006 following season-ending injuries to Beau McDonald and Jamie Charman. The 204cm ruckman spent most of his time playing for the Suncoast Lions in the local AFLQ, where he was consistently one of the team's better players. His agility, precision, fitness and marking ability means he presents not only a promising ruck alternative, but also an effective midfield option once the ball is in general play. Won an AFL Rising Star nomination in round two of the 2007 season following an excellent performance in the Lions' big win over St Kilda.  In his first year at Collingwood, Wood played 13 games including the first eight rounds.  In 2009 he added another 13 matches including nine of the last 10 matches.
