Leaving the Western Bulldogs after six seasons and three Preliminary Finals, Rodney Eade was hired by Collingwood to fill a newly created position, Football and Coaching Strategist.

Born and raised in Glenorchy, Tasmania, Eade brings a strong understanding of the game having played and coached in over 25 seasons of VFL and AFL.

Eade will report to Director of Football Geoff Walsh, and strengthens the football department leadership team comprising Nathan Buckley (Senior Coach), Derek Hine (National Recruiting Manager) and David Buttifant (Director of Sports Science).

He played in four premierships for Hawthorn during their glory era in the 1970s and 1980s before ending his career with the Brisbane Bears. In his retirement, Eade coached the Bears to the reserves premiership in 1991 and then joined North Melbourne as an assistant coach. He coached the Kangaroos reserves in 1994 and 1995, winning his second reserve grade premiership as a coach in his final season at the helm.

'Rocket' coached the Sydney Swans to the Grand Final in his first season as a senior coach in 1996, and made sure that his Sydney and Bulldog teams were competitive and made regular finals appearances.

Eade has the honour of taking over from Mick Malthouse as coach of the Australian International Rules side to play Ireland in Australia in October/November of 2011.

Coaching Career: Brisbane Bears (reserves coach) 1991, North Melbourne (assistant coach) 1992-1993; (reserves coach) 1994-1995, Sydney (senior coach) 1996-2002 (152 games; 81 wins, 69 losses, 2 draws), Western Bulldogs (senior coach) 2005-11 (162 games, 88 wins, 72 losses, 2 draws).
