The first intra-club hit out was conducted during the Friday closed training session at Gosch’s Paddock.

Prior to the hit out, the team ran through a stoppages drill using the entire ground.
Assistant coach, Brad Scott, was at the helm directing the players during the stoppages.

Scott was assisted by Travis Cloke who was shouting directions to forward John Anthony.  The young forward was receptive to the calls and pushed off his opponent, Simon Prestigiacomo, to mark and goal from the top of the 50 metre arc.

After 20 minutes the two teams (red and grey) convened on opposite ends of the ground to discuss the game plan before the first half commenced.

Each half ran for 20 minutes with the coaching staff intently studying the new recruits.

Dayne Beams was best afield and would have earned the three votes for the match.  He had 17 possessions (10 handballs and seven kicks) with most coming directly from the ruckman, Cameron Wood.  Beams excelled at delivering the ball to his forwards and set up Chris Bryan who kicked the first goal.

The grey team was kicking towards the Swan St end with the aid of a four goal breeze.

The first half was dictated by the grey side largely due to the play of Beams, Heath Shaw and Martin Clarke.

Clarke was prominent finishing the match with 14 disposals while Shaw (11 disposals, five marks) provided strong running from the half-back.

Beams followed with another major after cleanly picking up the ball from the pack and kicking true from 45 metres out.

His side maintained the pressure with Bryan notching his second major, kicking a set shot from 55 metres out.

Lachlan Keeffe was the beneficiary from a turnover by the red side when he picked off a pass from Sharrod Wellingham and kicked the side's fourth goal just before the half.

After a five minute break, the red side finally tallied a major when Dale Thomas threaded a goal through the posts.  He received a pass from Ben Reid who covered a significant amount of ground for his size.  Reid finished the morning with 15 possessions, the second highest on the ground.

The red team moved within two goals when Steele Sidebottom kicked a major on the run from his left side.  His kick compensated for the strong wind and the ball sailed through on a left-to-right trajectory.

The final five minutes was a hard fought battle in the midfield with the grey side sending extra men behind the ball to hold on to what was an eventual eight point win. The final score read 5.3 (33) to 4.1 (25).

The first full intra-club match will be held at Gosch's Paddock on Friday 30 January.  Stay tuned for Collingwoodfc.com.au for details.
