Against a far more experienced opposition, the VFL Magpies remained in the game right up until three quarter time when they trailed by only seven-points. It took an eight goal to one final quarter for the Borough to shrug off the persistent Pies, who would have pleased their coach with their effort.

John McCarthy was named captain in the absence of the injured Kris Pendlebury, and did his cause for reselection no harm in winning 33-disposals. The left-footed Ben Johnson was excellent in the first half and ended the day with 26-disposals, and Brent Macaffer played his best game for 2011, finding 28-disposals and contributing 5-inside 50ms.

In the absence of Brett Eddy, Declan Reilly and Kirk Ugle managed to goals apiece. Ugle played perhaps his best match for the club todate, with 10-disposals and three tackles. Shae McNamara was another to impress, spending more time on the wing and behind the ball than in the ruck. He had 17-disposals and 4-inside 50ms in an encouraging display.

Collingwood make the trip up to Wangaratta to face another flag fancy, Williamstown, in round 16 on Sunday afternoon.
