Senior stars Dane Swan, Chris Tarrant and Darren Jolly join a Collingwood outfit aiming for its eighth straight win when it plays Melbourne in the annual Queen’s Birthday clash on Monday.

Each member of the trio has spent time on the sidelines due to injury in the first half of the season. Although Jolly (one week) and Swan (two weeks) have only spent minimal time out of the senior side, Tarrant has not been sighted since the opening term of Collingwood’s second round game against Richmond when he strained his calf.

The 31-year-old has since played two matches over a three-week period for the club’s VFL team.

Vice-captain Scott Pendlebury will miss as a result of his cracked tibia sustained during the win over Gold Coast on Sunday, while Kirk Ugle and Cameron Wood have been omitted.

The pair joins Paul Seedsman as the three emergencies for Monday.

Pendlebury, the 2011 Copeland Trophy winner, will miss the clash with the Demons and then be reassessed by the club’s medical team following next week’s bye weekend.

Swan’s return will help offset Pendlebury’s absence, as the reigning Brownlow Medallist was leading the club’s disposal count before injuring his hamstring in the win against Geelong a fortnight ago.

Tarrant is a notable inclusion considering his historically strong performances against the Demons. He has kicked a total of 27 goals in his 12 games against the league’s oldest club and bagged his career-high haul of seven on the Queen’s Birthday in round 11, 2002. His move to the backline hasn’t stemmed his fondness for fixtures against Melbourne as he received his first Brownlow Medal vote since 2006 for his performance against Brad Green in round 12 last year.

But his greatest moment against Melbourne was his spectacular pack mark on the Queen’s Birthday in 2001 that appeared destined to win Mark of the Year, only to be trumped by Essendon’s Gary Moorcroft three weeks later.

Absent due a virus last week, Jolly is set to play his 50th match for Collingwood since debuting in round one, 2010. The 30-year-old also played 48 matches for Melbourne, where he began his career in 2001, before crossing to Sydney.
