Of all the intangibles that make up a good football team, continuity is one that is often overlooked.

With one remaining in the 2015 season, four players stand to have featured in all 22 of Collingwood’s senior games this season.

Scott Pendlebury, Tom Langdon, Jack Crisp and Travis Varcoe have each played 21 games and all but pick themselves for Sunday’s game against Essendon.

Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan will fall one short; a knee injury against Geelong last Friday hastening his end to the season.

It’s an especially commendable performance by Crisp and Varcoe after crossing to the Holden Centre last October.

Varcoe stands to finish an entire season in the senior side for the first time in his career. He had earlier spent nine years at Geelong, playing a career-high 24 games during the 2011 season.

For Crisp, it’s a particularly meritorious achievement.

The 21-year-old managed just 18 games across three seasons with Brisbane after starting out on the rookie list.

He has now played 27 games without a miss after playing the final six rounds of the 2014 season in the Lions’ senior side.

Honourable mentions…

After 22 rounds, Marley Williams, Nathan Brown and Jack Frost have all missed just one game.

It’s a particularly fine effort on Brown’s behalf, given shoulder injuries restricted him to just three games in 2014.

Frost’s run of 42 consecutive games came to an end just last week when he was omitted for Friday’s match against Geelong. He remains in contention to return this week after a fine performance against Frosty Miller Medallist Jordan Lisle in the VFL.

Also…

Those who reckon Darcy Moore is a good thing to win the AFL Rising Star Award can cool their jets for another six months.

The teenaged wunderkind will finish the season with nine senior games to his name should he play against Essendon on Sunday.

Rising Star rules decree a player must be under the age of 21 on 1 January and must not have played more then ten games at the start of the season in which he was nominated.

Even if Moore is nominated for the Rising Star this week, he will still be eligible next season (players can be nominated more than once across their careers should they still qualify under the rules above).

Moore’s Oakleigh Chargers teammate Jordan De Goey has played the most senior games of any of Collingwood’s five debutants this year (15).

As a comparison, recent midfield debutants Steele Sidebottom played 11 games in his debut season while Dayne Beams managed 18.

For the record…

Six players featured in all 26 games during Collingwood’s premiership year of 2010.

For those interested, the players were Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas, Heritier Lumumba, Alan Toovey and Darren Jolly.

And in the VFL…

No players have featured in all 18 senior games at VFL level.

Four – Mason Cox, Ben Moloney, Ryan Pendlebury and Jake Williams – have missed just one.

The VFL Magpies have used a total of 54 players this season.
