Keeffe and Thomas return as rookies

AFL 360: Buckley on Keeffe-Thomas Watch Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley on AFL 360 following the match against Carlton at the MCG, where he discusses the suspensions of Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas.

Suspended pair Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas will officially continue their football careers with Collingwood after they were added to the club’s rookie list on Friday.

Earlier this month, the pair was formally advised in writing they would each receive a two-year ban after pleading guilty to a breach of the AFL Anti-Doping Code.

Samples taken from Keeffe and Thomas on 10 February 2015 tested positive for the presence of clenbuterol – a WADA-prohibited substance.

Both players have accepted the maximum sanction of two years and will be banned from AFL competition until 9 February 2017.

Under the operation of the AFL Anti-Doping Code, Keeffe and Thomas may not play at any level of the game in any recognised competition and will not be permitted to train with the club until after 9 December 2016.

Keeffe, 25, has played 40 senior games since arriving at Collingwood at the end of 2007.

He was joined by Thomas in 2009, who has since notched 32 senior games.
