Collingwood’s forward half pressure and firepower will lift a notch or two in 2017 with addition of unrestricted free agent Chris Mayne.

The hard-tackling former Fremantle forward has been a key member of the Docker’s front line over the past nine years, playing 172 games and kicking 196 goals. Mayne’s tackle pressure is ranked elite, averaging five a match in 2016.

The 27 year old’s durability has meant he has missed just five games in the last six seasons. He has joined Collingwood on a four year deal.

GM List Management Derek Hine said Mayne offers versatility, a high football IQ and tenacity in any situation.

“Chris, with his experience, nous, tackling temperament and nose for a goal can really help us in some important areas,” Hine said.

“This year, Chris was the second best forward in the competition for pressure applied,  was is in the top five per cent of forwards for average tackles at 5.4 a game and in the top 10% of forwards for average marks at 5.0 a game.

“With these qualities, and his experience, we think he can really make an impact.”

Mayne said he is looking forward to making the most of his time at the Holden Centre.

“Collingwood is such a big, strong club, it has everything you need as a player facility wise… the players are getting the best opportunity to better themselves and come together as a unit to build something great and that’s what I want to do with my new team,” Mayne said.

“It’s a fresh start for me, it’s an opportunity I’ll definitely take with both hands… and I hope the fans and everyone involved in the club really embrace me and we build a connection for bigger and better things.”
