A match-winning goal to Ben Crocker has handed the VFL Magpies a thrilling five-point victory over Footscray on Sunday morning.

On a picturesque day at Victoria Park, the football – and the dramatic finish - didn’t disappoint.

After the Magpies held an 18-point lead half way through the final term, Footscray stormed back into contention with three quick goals to level the scores.

With only minutes to play, a clearance and quick kick forward ended up in the hands of Crocker, who danced around an opponent and snapped a goal to give Collingwood a six-point lead.

And while the crowd at Victoria Park thought that was the game, the reigning premiers had other ideas.

A last-minute clearance landed in the hands of Dogs forward, Anthony Bruhn.

With a chance to level the scores, Bruhn hit the post from his set shot, just as the siren sounded.

Jarryd Blair starred in the middle for the Magpies, while ruckman Lachlan Howe had his best performance in Black and White in the absence of Max Lynch and Mason Cox

VFL-listed midfielders Gus Borthwick and Campbell Lane were impressive, while Josh Daicos and Rupert Wills played important roles.

The win marks the Magpies’ fourth victory of the season, with two strong outings coming after the league bye.

Next up, it’s a trip down the highway as Collingwood face Geelong at Simmonds Stadium.
