First words from new coach The Holden Centre continues to grow. Today on News Daily, we hear from new assistant coach Garry Hocking, and learn more about Collingwood's VFL Women's licence.

Collingwood has finalised its 2018 coaching panel with the signature of South Adelaide senior coach Garry Hocking.

Hocking will join the club as an assistant coach focussing on stoppages.

The former Geelong great spent seven years in the AFL system as a Port Adelaide assistant coach before taking the reins of his own SANFL side South Adelaide at the end of 2016.

General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh said Hocking’s wealth of different coaching experiences will be a valuable asset for the Pies’ coaching panel.

"Garry comes to us having spent time coaching in the AFL system, the SANFL, VFL, WAFL and TAC Cup, all of which have shaped him into the coach he is today," Walsh said.

"We think Garry rounds out our team of coaches really well. He has strong people management skills, having led his own teams, and will bring great knowledge and insights into his role as stoppages coach."

Hocking played 274 games for Geelong, earning four best and fairests and four All-Australian selections, and is also a member of both Geelong’s Team of the Century and the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Garry Hocking played 274 games for Geelong between 1987 and 2001.

"I’m extremely excited by the opportunity to join such a proud club that is rich in history," Hocking said.

"The club has a focus on creating sustained success and hopefully I bring a skill set that compliments the other quality coaches already in place and together we can achieve that."

Hocking’s appointment finalises Collingwood’s AFL men’s coaching panel for the 2018 season.
