Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo is to have shoulder surgery next week.

Director of Football, Geoff Walsh, said that surgery was deemed necessary after a knock the 25 year-old took on the training track last week did not respond to treatment.

“It’s disappointing for Alex, who has had more than his fair share of setbacks over the journey,” Walsh said.

“We will know more post-surgery, about the exact nature of the injury and a recovery period, but at this point his pre-season will certainly be interrupted. How severely? We’ll know more next week.”

Fasolo played 19 matches in 2017 and kicked 29 goals. He has kicked 133 goals in a 100-game career that stretches back to 2011, when he was a Rising Star nominee.

Fasolo won Collingwood’s leading goal-kicker award, the Gordon Coventry award, in 2016.
