Collingwood’s VFLW side continues to impress having claimed a 24-point victory over Williamstown at Victoria Park on Saturday.

In a battle of the birds, both sides braved the windy conditions which played havoc on basic skill execution of all players.

A shaky start saw the Pies grasp the led by a single point at the end of the opening term.

Three straight goals in the second quarter extended their lead to 13 points at the main break.

The Seagulls increased their pressure in the third term, which made it difficult for the Pies to make the most of their opportunities up forward.

Having improved their defence in the second half, the Pies managed to claim four goals and limit the Seagulls to a goalless final term.

Back-to-back goals from Katelyn Lee and Chloe Molloy in the last quarter saw the Pies claim their eighth straight victory, 9.3 (57) to 4.8 (31).

Collingwood forward Maddie Shevlin admitted it wasn’t a perfect outing for her team and said there are lots to take away from the game.

“There were times when we went away from what we are really good at and that showed on-field today," Shevlin told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“We came out pretty slow in the first half but after half time we really adapted to playing our style of footy but it was a hard fought win.”

The Pies were able to steady themselves in the second term before taking full control of the reigns in the final half.

“When the Seagulls got on the board, the pressure was a bit too much for us at that stage in the game,” Shevlin said.

“As soon as we levelled our heads and got back to our way, we had a really good crack at it in that second half.”

The Pies were quick to the board with Sophie Alexander snapping two goals in the opening five minutes of the match.

The team got around American Magpie Jessica Blecher who booted her first AFL goal late in the second term.

Katelyn Lee positioned herself well around the play and she also managed to get her first goal for the season.

The solid defensive efforts of Jordyn Allen and Stacey Lawry stunted the Seagulls in the final term that saw them goalless.

Chloe Molloy and Jaimee Lambert continue to impress week in, week out, both delivering strong drives through the forward line and also providing great assistance around the ball.

But a heavy hit on tall forward, Erica Fowler in the final minutes of the match stunned the crowd.

Stretchered off the field with a suspected concussion, she was quickly sent off to hospital.

The Pies will now head to Morwell for their round 11 clash against Melbourne University on Saturday 20th July at 2pm.

Shevlin said she looks forward to again taking the game down to the Gippsland community.

“We played the Bulldogs in Morwell a few weeks ago and we love playing down there as the crowd is always great.

“We’ll jump on a bus together this game so there’ll be a bit more bonding pre-game and I can’t wait.”
