Collingwood has broken the Giants winning streak, claiming a 13-point victory in Sunday’s invitational match at Victoria Park.

The Magpies are the only side to defeat the Giants in their five invitational games throughout the VFLW season.

Despite not playing for premiership points, the Magpies braved the challenging conditions of wind, rain and sun as they continued to impress across the field.

Crucial to the Pies’ success was their ability to do the basics well, managing to hit targets and have smart ball use particularly through the midfield and forward line.

The Pies also displayed tight one-on-one pressure and strong intent that saw them take control of the game in the second and third terms.

But it was a trying final quarter with both sides unable to convert on the scoreboard.

Despite the Giants struggle to perform in front of goal, they were quick to the ball and dominated in defence in the first quarter.

But from then out, the visitors failed to stand up to the speed and agility of opposition.

In the end, the Pies were just too strong, claiming victory, 3.4 (22) to 1.3 (9).

Chloe Molloy was classy up forward and managed to get her name first on the board, booting a goal from a set shot on the siren to close out the opening term.

Her footy smarts continued in the second quarter, kicking the ball to a lonely Sarah Dargan in the goal square who claimed the home side’s second major of the day.

The Pies option to go deep paid off in the third term with dominant midfielder, Jaimee Lambert using her speed to sneak behind the Giants’ defenders and convert at goal close in.

Defensive duo, Stacey Livingstone and Nicole Hales remain consistent, providing strong impact each week. The two played an important role down back holding the Giants to a single goal for the match.

The Pies will be in search for their 12th straight victory when they return to Victoria Park next Saturday (17 August) where they’ll hit out against Essendon.
