VFLW Selection: Pies make seven changes for the Hawks

Collingwood has made seven changes ahead of its final clash of the home and away season taking on Hawthorn in Box Hill on Saturday.

The Magpies will be boosted with the experience of AFLW-listed players Jaimee Lambert, Stacey Livingstone, Maddie Shevlin, Sophie Casey and Mikala Cann added into the mix.

Britt Bonnici and Sharni Layton will also return. The two last took to the field in round seven.

Alongside them, key VFLW players Alana Porter and Nicole Hales will feature in the backline whilst Caitlin Bunker, Katie Lee and Nicola Xenos will also take to the field. All five were named in the Pies’ best last weekend.

The Pies and Hawks last encounter was back in round two, where the Pies managed a convincing 28-point victory. But this time around, both sides are expected to have very different line ups.

The reigning premiers’ are likely to feature several big names including Pepa Randall, Sarah Perkins and Phoebe McWilliams who were all absent in the Hawks previous meeting with the Pies.

Alongside them, former AFLW Magpie, Jordan Membrey is likely to be included. Since joining the Hawks, the forward has had a solid impact on field collecting two MVPs this season.

After a disappointing 27-point loss to Essendon last Saturday, the Pies will be keen to get one last win on the board having fallen into second position on the ladder. The Southern Saints now sit as the ladder leaders having claimed victory over Hawthorn in round 15 – also by a 27-point margin.

A win on Saturday could see the Pies reclaim the top position on the ladder and possible a home qualifying final depending on the result between the Saints and Richmond.

Please note this is a double-header match with the VFL men’s game of Hawthorn and Collingwood to follow at 2pm.
