Collingwood have beaten Essendon by 31 points in their traditional Anzac-weekend VFL clash.

It was the 11th time the two Clubs had faced on the weekend, with the Pies having won three of the last four matchups.

In Collingwood’s first match under lights for 2025, it was Essendon who got the jump early. However, a long kick from young forward Charlie West got the Pies off the board, with Wil Parker, Oleg Markov and Harry Mahoney each adding to the tally before West kicked his second.

A subsequent second goal to Mahoney saw Collingwood end the first term 15-point leaders.

Essendon had a resurgence in the second quarter, however VFL captain Sam Glover stood tall in the backline, ensuring the Bombers were unable to capitalise on the scoreboard.

Tew Jiath showed off his speed on multiple occasions, often linking up with Glover to get the ball forward.

The Pies ended the half with an eight-point buffer over the Bombers, and it wasn’t until long when Essendon narrowed that further to a single point at the beginning of the third.

Collingwood tall Mason Cox showed his influence in the forward line, kicking two second half goals, while VFL-listed players Mahoney, Tom Wilson, Joshua Browne and Liam Hude each finished their nights with two goals apiece.
