Second-year rookie Caolan Mooney has been rewarded for his rapid development with a promotion onto the senior list.

He has been elevated in place of West Australian draftee Jackson Ramsay who was moved onto the long-term injury list after sustaining a broken wrist in the first round of the VFL.

Mooney, who played four games in his debut season last year, arrived from Ireland at the end of 2011.

He featured in the club's NAB Cup campaign but had his early season progress stunted by a calf injury.

The 20-year-old roared back into senior contention after a two week layoff with five goals against Williamstown in the VFL on Sunday, with his forward pressure earning plaudits from the club’s coaching staff.

Director of Football Geoff Walsh said Mooney’s elevation to the senior list represented due reward for the Irishman’s recent exponential improvement.

“Certainly, his last month has been pretty solid. He was someone who played four matches last year and simply remained on the rookie list in the interests of list management,” Walsh said.

Mooney has rapidly adapted to the rigours of Australian Football, with his raw speed and impressive vertical leap offering the physical platform to aid his transition from Gaelic football to the Australian game.

Interestingly, Mooney made his senior AFL debut against Fremantle in round 14 - the opponent Collingwood is set to face at Patersons Stadium on Saturday night.
