Collingwood has created a new AFL membership record, signing its 60,000th member for season 2014, two weeks before Christmas.

The milestone follows on from a season in which the club created Australian sporting history by signing 80,456 members in 2013.

Collingwood President Eddie McGuire said the fact that 60,000 Collingwood supporters have already committed to the club for 2014 is testament to why they are considered the most passionate and committed members in Australian sport.

“Our club is centred around its members and we will continue to look for every opportunity to provide our supporters with the membership experience they choose. Every year we make improvements to our membership services based on the feedback from our supporters.

“Over the past seven years we have more than doubled our membership, which is why we are on track to break our target of 100,000 members.”

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert said that support for the club has also continued to build nationally and internationally.

“Of the 60,000 members who have signed up so far for season 2014, 20 per cent of those are located outside of Victoria.”

Pert said the introduction of a number of new membership options and an increased focus on the club’s digital offering had seen substantial growth in a membership base beyond the club’s traditional regions.

“In 2013 fans from 88 countries signed on and the number of non-Victorian members rose to more than 20,000; members can now connect with and be a part of the club from all corners of the globe.

“Our fans tell us that as our membership grows, it only encourages more people to share in the experience,” Pert said.
