In the lead up to the Collingwood Forever Gala Event, collingwoodfc.com.au will be profiling different Magpies from down the years, reliving their playing days and delving deeper into their connection with the club they represented with distinction.

This week, 123-game key position player Ron McKeown recalls his time in the Black and White and explains why he will be attending the Gala Event on 27 August.

Tickets to the Collingwood Forever Gala Event are now on sale. Click here to purchase yours or phone 1300 MAGPIE (1300 62 47 43) during business hours.

Q: What are your favourite memories from your playing career?
A: Probably my first game for the club (against Carlton at Waverley Park in round 15, 1984).

Q: Who was the best player you played alongside?
A: Peter Daicos.

Q: What was the best match you played in?
A: I kicked eight goals in a game against Essendon back in 1986, I think it was, down at VFL Park (Waverley).

Q: Do you still attend Collingwood matches, and if so, how regularly?
A: I do, but I usually can only get to the Friday night matches.

Q: Are you attending the Past Players Gala Event at Crown later this year, and if so, which past teammates are you looking forward to catching up with?
A: I am, yes. I was good friends with Tony Francis but I’m not sure whether is going or not. There are also guys like Peter Daicos and Tony Shaw who it will be good to see again.

Q: What is it that makes Collingwood special?
A: Just the supporters, the passionate supporters, and the love-hate relationship that means you either love Collingwood or you hate us.
