Collingwood CEO Gary Pert believes the club is on its way to signing 80,000 members for the third year in a row.

Pert on Friday announced that 75,000 supporters had already signed up to be a member in 2015, with more expected to follow in what shapes to be a season-defining month for the club on the field.

“I can announce today that we just clicked over 75,000 members,” Pert told Collingwood Media.

“It’s another amazing result. We’re on track to get to 80,000 for the third year in a row. This is certainly a target which has never been achieved by any other sporting club in Australia.”

The CEO believed strong on-field form, an improved match-day experience and unparalleled digital accessibility to the club has provided incentive for supporters to become members.

He stated that increasing energy levels and passion from the ‘Magpie Army’ at the MCG has been a focus.

“This year’s been all about creating the energy and the noise and the passion and bringing back the colour and movement of the Magpie Army,” he said.

“There’s no doubt to me when you look back out to the Ponsford Stand behind the goals, what we’re creating there is a Magpie Army that really stands out.”

In a mid-season address highlighting a number of key talking points, Pert once again reiterated the club's stance on the provisional suspensions of Josh Thomas and Lachlan Keeffe.

“We’re in contact with the players... we’ve certainly made sure they’ve got all the care and welfare surrounding them during this difficult time and process they’re going through,” Pert said.

“We can’t add value, we can’t get involved in the legal process...

“While we’re there to support the players and make sure that they’re in good health while they go through the process, we certainly, from day one, have kept out of the legal process and that’s at a respect to the players and the awareness of the impact that this could have to the club.

“We would expect that they would be unavailable for the next two years.”

With the Magpies sitting comfortably in fourth position on the AFL ladder with eight wins and three losses, Pert believes the playing group has the ability to create success beyond 2015.

He stated that re-claiming a place in the finals has been a clearly-defined goal this season, and believes that Nathan Buckley and the coaching staff will settle on the best playing side in the second half of the year.

“We’ve certainly had some good wins. I think that it’s more important for us to be playing a style of football and creating a squad of players and talent that is not only going to give us success in 2015, but sets us up for an era where in 2016, 2017 there’s this young list of players coming through really starts to peak.

“We’ve now got the backend of the season to establish the best 22 and to be playing a style of football that, up against the best teams, can be successful during that finals period.”
