Dane Swan has been a recurring nightmare for Melbourne for the majority of his 253-game career.

He averages 28.38 disposals against the Demons, including back-to-back tallies of 42 and 39 in 2012 and 2013.

The 2010 Brownlow Medallist moved within one game of Gavin Brown in eighth position on Collingwood’s all-time games leaders list when he ran onto the MCG on Saturday.

Melbourne were full of confidence and on top of nearly every aspect of the game. Yet despite the Demons’ 37-point victory, they couldn’t stop the Collingwood champion.

Swan had 36 disposals, eight clearances, eight inside 50s and six marks in a performance worthy of two votes from Nathan Buckley and Paul Roos in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.

Buckley stated post-game that Swan was the only player to provide a four-quarter performance stating “I thought Swanny was right up there”.

The 31-year-old was the only Magpies to poll, with Melbourne’s Bernie Vince taking out a maximum ten votes for his negating role on Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury.

The pair of votes takes Swan’s season tally to 30 votes, second to only Pendlebury who sits in seventh position in the competition on 55 votes.

Saturday’s 36-disposal performance means that Swan has now totalled 30 possessions or more in 50 per cent of his games this year.

His highest tally of the season was 39 touches against St Kilda in round three, while he has collected 36 on two occasions (round 8 against Gold Coast and round 18 against Melbourne).

Sydney’s Dan Hannebery is quickly approaching Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe at the top of the AFLCA Champion Player leaderboard.

Hannebery received another 10 votes against Adelaide to move 15 votes behind Fyfe’s leading total of 100.
