Collingwood’s big weekend of Queen’s Birthday football begins at Casey Fields this Saturday, when the VFL Magpies take on the Casey Demons.

The Jared Rivers-led Magpies have named 17 AFL-listed players, but ahead of the match, four will be withdrawn from the squad to represent the senior side on Monday.

The form
Collingwood enters the match off the back of a 14-point win over Sandringham.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak, for the Pies had not collected the four points since the opening round against Coburg.

VFL stars Jack Hellier and Matt Smith made welcome returns to the midfield, while Kayle Kirby won rave reviews for his six goals from the forward pocket.

The tenth-placed Casey, meanwhile, enters the match two rungs above the Magpies courtesy of an 18-point win over Coburg.

Former Magpie Ben Kennedy kicked three goals, while Jay Kennedy-Harris, who has since been promoted to the senior side, was named the Demons’ best.

Magpies to watch
All one-eyed Pies will have their pupils trained on Kirby. The Bendigo product wowed the crowd with his six goals last week and leads the team’s goal kicking for the year with 16. Mason Cox, the next best placed Magpie, has seven.

Of the VFL-listed Magpies, Gus Borthwick will be one of the beneficiaries should the ground be as wet as it has been in previous years. The industrious on baller will relish the opportunity to get to the bottom of the packs and feed the ball out to his teammates.

Broadcast details
Saturday’s match will be broadcast live into Victoria on Channel Seven from 2.10pm.
