Brodie Grundy
in the ruck. Mason Cox up forward. And Darcy Moore in a new role altogether.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury believes the versatility of all three can allow each to take a place in the Magpies’ round 23 side against Melbourne.

Grundy will return from a two-game suspension to tackle the Demons, while Cox has found form during his stint in the middle.

“It’s interesting because we’ve got two really legitimately good rucks,” Pendlebury told Collingwood Media podcast ‘Jock and Journo’.

“Coxy will definitely play, it’s just a matter of how we use them.”

Originally trialled as a key forward, the 211cm American has been a perfect replacement for Grundy in recent weeks.

Cox had 43 hitouts, laid eight tackles and kicked two goals in a career-best game opposing Geelong’s Zac Smith in round 22.

The injured Pendlebury watched from the stands as Cox took on the ruck mantle, but liked what he saw.

“I think he’s shown more as a ruck (than as a forward),” Pendlebury said.

“Now with the last game coming up, it’s probably a good opportunity to see… how Coxy and Brodie work together against Max Gawn.”

The perfect piece in the Grundy-Cox puzzle is another member of Collingwood’s tall timber brigade. His name? Darcy Moore.

Pendlebury believes an extra tall in the team would allow the 21-year-old greater flexibility to play more freely up the ground.

“Darcy might even go to a wing,” he said.

“He’s athletic enough to play wherever.

“Having two rucks gives you that ability.”
