New Year’s Day will mark 82 days until Collingwood’s first match of the 2018 home and away season, and only 32 days before the club’s first game of the second AFL Women’s campaign.

Collingwood Media presents a snapshot of the club’s progress over the summer as we prepare for the journey ahead.

New personnel
AFL
Several new faces have taken up residence in the Holden Centre’s offices during the pre-season.

Justin Longmuir arrived via West Coast to oversee the club’s backline and team defence. Matthew Boyd, the Western Bulldog champion, is now a Development Coach, and Geelong great Garry ‘Buddha’ Hocking will now command the midfield’s stoppage structure.

Elsewhere, Kevin White has taken the reigns as the club’s Strength and Conditioning Manager.

White is no stranger to a pre-season at the Holden Centre. After having worked as a sports scientist at the club under previous High Performance Managers David Buttifant and Bill Davoren, he now has control of the Magpies’ pre-season training program himself.

AFLW
Collingwood’s AFL Women’s team has made several changes to its coaching panel for the second season of the competition.

Wayne Siekman remains as senior coach, leading a group that includes a member of the AFL playing list, Lynden Dunn, Daniel Harford, the former Hawk-turned-Blue, and Matthew Jones, a product of the Dandenong Stingrays’ coaching system.

Chloe McMillian, meanwhile, has graduated from the position of Development Coach to assistant coach.

Meanwhile, supporters may notice a familiar face wearing the club polo in 2018.

Mathew James, the one-time AFL field umpire, is now the AFLW team’s Football Operations Manager, having served as the team’s runner during its inaugural year.
