Pies make draft move

Ned Guy talks after trade night Collingwood List Manager talks after the trade period closes. Collingwood had traded in Dayne Beams and Jordan Roughead.

Collingwood has strengthened its hand in next month’s National Draft by completing an exchange of picks with Geelong.

The swap amounts to a small slice of AFL history. It is the first of its kind since draft selections were permitted to be dealt outside of the trade period. Clubs can exchange picks until 2pm on Friday 16 November, and on the night of the National Draft itself.

The deal will see Collingwood receive picks No. 59 and No. 60 from Geelong, with pick No. 51 going back the other way. The merit in the deal for Collingwood is that delivers an extra draft selection and 45 more draft value points.

“It is a mutually beneficial transaction that sees Geelong move forward in the draft from where they were and Collingwood acquire more points and an extra pick that can be put to securing our position,” said Collingwood List Manager Ned Guy.

The exchange leaves Collingwood with picks No. 41, No. 44, No. 57, No. 59, No. 60 and No. 93 in the November 22 - 23 National Draft.
