The President, Board, staff and members of the Collingwood Football Club would like to express their sadness at the passing of former player John Elder.

Wearing the No. 35 jumper, he made his debut in a loss to Footscray in the opening round of the '55 season. He returned for his second and final game against St Kilda a fortnight later, where the Magpies won by 57 points at Victoria Park.

It was to be the end of the line for Elder's Collingwood career, but he went on to play another 17 games for South Melbourne in 1956 and 1957.

The club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Elder family.
