Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley and Melbourne counterpart Paul Roos have given Magpie spearhead Travis Cloke full marks for his seven-goal game on Queen’s Birthday.

On a day filled with inspiration and emotion, Cloke produced one of the best displays of his career in the Magpies 25-point win.

He kicked four goals against a helpless Tom McDonald in the first quarter before finishing the game with an extremely accurate 7.0.

Nine of Cloke’s 12 possessions were contested while he completed the game with a remarkable disposal efficiency of 91.7 per cent.

It was enough for Buckley to label Cloke “dominant”, “imposing”, “powerful” and “crucial” in his post-match press conference, and also enough for him to reward his key forward maximum votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.

“If we’re moving the ball fluently from the back half then clearly we want to get him inside 50 or use him as a conduit between our offense and our defence,” Buckley stated of Cloke’s role in the team.

Another link in this chain on Monday was defender Adam Oxley. Oxley received seven votes from the coaches for his 30-disposal, 14-mark performance.

Acting as a sweeper in defence, eight of the 20-year-olds marks were intercepts from opposition kicks.

It was a duty Buckley described as “imperative” to the team’s success and one that Oxley may find himself occupying for consistently in the future.

Whoever said only midfielders win awards clearly didn’t pass on the message to Buckley and Roos after Monday’s game.

Defenders Jack Frost and Marley Williams joined Cloke and Oxley as Collingwood’s vote-getters, both recording a single vote each.

It marked the third consecutive week, and fourth overall in 2015, in which Williams has polled a vote as he continues to be recognised for his determined and selfless style of play.

Despite not polling for the last two weeks, Scott Pendlebury still leads Collingwood’s AFLCA Player of the Year leader board with 40 votes.

Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe polled two votes against Richmond on Friday night and leads the competition with with a total of 80.
